In the majority of digital security and surveillance deployments people assume the popular CODECs such as MJPEG and H.264 are the solution to your quality and managing your bandwidth. Everywhere we go we hear about interactive kiosks and how digital signage is gaining a foothold in different industries with wayfinding capabilities. Wayfinding is a technology to provide visitors with a simple method to get to their destination as quickly as possible, typically using a map displayed on the screen. Interactive kiosks are perfect for airports - how many times have you landed in an unfamiliar airport with no idea where to go? This type of technology would be ideal for airport, but are we there yet?

You are starting to see a lot of new technology being implemented into security product line-ups. For example, Seneca has just launched a new line of specialty network video recorders (NVRs) which includes NVRs for niche markets such as in-vehicle mobile transportation. But what is next?
